“Drinking Liquor in a Crack Den”

A few weeks ago I mentioned that there is a bar in downtown Daegu that sells cocktails in a bag.  It’s called GoGo Bar.  It is evil.

The word “cocktail” is a misnomer.  A more accurate description is that they sell giant shots in a plastic bag.  Every bag is at least 90% liquor.  Absolutely every bad, stupid, or embarrassing thing that has happened since we’ve been in Daegu can be traced back to GoGo.  This is best explained using photos.

This is the group of friends with whom I hang out most often:

Some of these people are living in Ulsan and in rural areas, but the majority are in Daegu.  I see at least half of this group every weekend and spend quite a bit of time with them.  They are all sane and reasonably intelligent.  We are entrusted with the important task of teaching Korea’s future leaders how to speak English.

So how do you explain this?

I’ll tell you how – GoGo Bar.  Did you notice the one thing that every photo had in common (aside from stupidity)?

My friend Scott from New Zealand put it best last night when he said, “partying at GoGo Bar is basically just drinking liquor in a crack den.”  So, we decided that we’re not going back there again.

We ended up at GoGo about an hour later.  It was a blast!

Until next time.

Are you the Jack in the Box?

  2. I’ve totally made a note of that place for our intended visit to check out Daegu! Haha. Funny stuff 🙂

It’s a pretty great place. You can get in trouble pretty quickly if you drink too many, but that’s not easy to do because the bags are basically straight liquor.
