Typhoon Day!

I was excited when I got a call from my coteacher at 11pm last night telling me that school was canceled today because of Typhoon Sanba!  My excitement turned to confusion when he told me that he would pick me up at 9am to take me to school.  I was sure that I misunderstood, so I asked a few follow-up questions.  My first impression was correct – school was canceled, but teachers should still go in and sit at their desks.

When I got to school this morning, all I could think about was how silly it was for us to be here alone for half a day.  It’s not long enough to get much work done (especially when there are blog posts to write).  I opened Facebook and saw that many other teachers were in the same boat.

So instead of having a typhoon party, we are stuck at work bitching on Facebook.  I guess it could be worse, though – we could actually have to work…

Until next time.

    Reblogged this on On Facebook.

  2. School without the kids?! That’s my idea of the perfect school day, haha. Hope you manage to stay entertained and safe!

I can actually shed some light on the reason that teachers have to go to school even during a typhoon. My co-teach said that in case there is a national emergency, the teachers need to be at school because that’s where the government will contact (and I’m assuming send everyone to the schools if, let’s say North Korea actually does attack). Since the schools are high up on the social ladder in Korea, it kind of makes sense. Not sure if the facts are correct, but that’s what I gathered from my co-teacher.

I’ve never heard that. I guess it makes more sense than the explanation that the rest of us in Daegu got…which is no explanation at all. Thanks for the info.
